Of late I have spent a great deal of time working on the following premise:

Can you use Six Sigma to achieve CMMI ML3 and higher?

The answer I have arrived at is an unequivocal, YES. To prove my point I just completed a Master Black Belt project that precisely attends to this assumption. My client project was built under the following assumptions:

CMMI efforts need to be:

profitable,

lithe,

prompt, and

effective

Lean Six Sigma certainly provides the tools to address the above. Additionally, a truly good CMMI/ Six Sigma effort needs to be implemented such that it is:

reactive to changing business needs,

easily absorbed within the culture, and

measurable (certainty needs to be applied in terms of numerical effectiveness of the effort).

Again, Six Sigma tools provides the requisite environment in which to guarantee the above.

My project plan was structured using Minitab’s Quality Companion 2. The plan itself was iterative in nature; everything structured in ‘bite-sized’ chunks. Processes were embedded in order to baseline and measure process performance and progress.

The bottom line is… Six Sigma can and should be used to help focus CMMI program efforts. Efforts structured using these tools and techniques can be implemented quickly and with minimal waste and maximum profit. Unfortunately, I am unable to share the particulars of this program, freely.

However, should you wish to discuss taking this approach within your organization and programs, I am more than happy to chat with you. Simply contact me via the contact page on this site to set up a time.

This week I was notified that I had successfully completed my final Master Black Belt project and can now lay claim to the title of Master Black Belt in 6 Sigma!

My final project involved the creation of a detailed program to assist engineering organizations attain CMMI version 1.2 Maturity Level 3 using 6 Sigma Techniques. Needless to say this is a program of which I am quite pleased.

I apologize for the inconvenience of having to shut down the ProcessTeam site for multiple days. We were hacked by some very nasty people and have been furiously working to identify the perpetrators. Hopefully they’ll get theirs!

As a by-product of the hacking and in keeping with the overall tenor of my latest web work I have abandoned the XOOPS component of this site and converted to using WordPress, solely. As a result, there no longer is a need to login or register in order to access this site’s materials. I will make everything equally available to this site’s readership.

You may have noticed that the site is not yet fully functional, again I apologize. It is my intention to make this site much more direct, simple, and useful. As a result not everything that once was on this site will reappear. Some materials are forever lost, courtesy of our hackers (not physically but rather lost due to security concerns). In the future I will do my best to keep this site extremely secure (as a result any comments or input will only be accepted via our contact form- sorry). Having said all this tough, I think in the end you will ultimately find the new ProcessTeam site more useful than before.

As always your comments are welcomed— try our contact form out to send them!
